The FE-8 is an add-on control surface unit for the FW-1884. It extends the FW-1884 by another eight channels of DAW control, and together the two units can control up to 128 DAW channels at the same time. It was developed jointly by Tascam and Frontier Design Group.
Each of the eight channel strips has a 100 mm touch-sensitive motorized fader and a rotary encoder. Select, Solo and Mute buttons are provided per channel, along with a record arm button with an indicator. This layout suits large projects such as layered surround mixes or live recordings where quick access to the mix is needed.
The FE-8 attaches to the FW-1884 through a single FireWire connection. It measures 260 x 133 x 478 mm (10.25" x 5.2" x 18.9") and weighs 5 kg (11 lbs). A manual and an FAQ document are available from the maker.
