The Fantom-G8 is the 88-key model of Roland's Fantom-G workstation series. It combines a sound engine with 2,230 waveforms and 256 MB of wave memory, an onboard sampler, and a sequencer with up to 128 MIDI tracks plus 24 audio tracks. Sounds are organised as patches, rhythm sets, Live Sets and Studio Sets, and effects include per-part multi-effects with up to 22 routings in use at once.
The keyboard has velocity and channel aftertouch. Performance controls include 16 velocity- and polyphonic-aftertouch-sensitive pads, a pitch bend/modulation lever, eight sliders, four knobs, two assignable switches and a D Beam controller. An 8.5-inch wide colour LCD shows the interface, and a mouse can be connected for editing.
For connections there is a combo mic/guitar input with phantom power and Hi-Z, line inputs, main and secondary outputs, MIDI In/Out/Thru, coaxial digital in and out, and a USB port for file transfer and audio/MIDI with a computer. Two ARX slots take SuperNATURAL expansion boards, and a DIMM slot expands sampling memory.
