Dual-channel transformerless microphone preamplifier with two Hi-Z instrument inputs and a built-in headphone amplifier, in a half-width 19-inch-wide rack chassis format. Intended for studio recording with condenser and other microphones, as well as electric guitar and bass.

The V 402 is a two-channel microphone preamplifier built around a transformerless circuit. Each channel has an XLR mic input with 48 V phantom power, a switchable 20 dB pad, a 60 Hz high-pass filter and a ground lift. Gain runs from +20 dB to +60 dB with the pad off, and the pad raises the maximum input level from +8 dBu to +28 dBu.
Two front-panel 6.3 mm Hi-Z inputs, with an input impedance of 3.3 MΩ, accept electric guitars, basses and other instruments. Each channel has a bargraph meter covering -24 dBu to +24 dBu with peak hold. A headphone amplifier on the front panel offers separate volume controls for the left and right channels plus a master level, and it can be switched between mono and stereo. This allows a latency-free monitoring mix that does not affect the recorded signal.
Balanced signals leave through two XLR outputs. The unit takes mains power at 100–120 V or 220–240 V, and it is supplied with a mains cable for EU, UK and US sockets. It is handmade in Germany.
