The 461 is a dual-mono power amplifier built around the MDCA (MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier) circuit, which was first used in the maker's North Collection. It uses a no-global-feedback design with MOON transistors. Two MOON Hybrid Power supply modules, one for each channel, feed the output stages. This is intended to reduce crosstalk and improve current delivery into lower-impedance speakers.
A rear-panel switch selects Stereo, Bridged Mono or Bi-Amping Mono operation. Stereo delivers 150 W per channel into 8 ohms and 300 W into 4 ohms. Bridged mono delivers 450 W into 8 ohms. Bi-amping mono lets the low and high frequency sections of a speaker be driven by separate amplification.
The chassis is black with bead-blasted aluminum cheeks in black or silver. For connectivity, the amplifier has a MOONLink port on a dual-Ethernet connector and a USB service port. The maker pairs it with the MOON 491 network player / preamplifier as the top system in the Compass Collection.
