The C53 is the three-channel version of Hegel's C5 multi-channel power amplifier range, which also includes four- and five-channel models. Each channel delivers 150 W into 8 ohms, 300 W into 4 ohms and 600 W into 2 ohms. It can serve as part of a 5.1 or Atmos theatre, for bi-amping or active crossover setups, in a mastering studio, or in a restaurant or home installation.
The amplifier uses Hegel's SoundEngine2 technology, which cancels distortion generated in the amplifier circuits. It allows low-bias class A/B operation, so the unit runs cooler and can be installed in a 19-inch rack, and gives a damping factor above 2000. Each channel has its own switchable gain (23 dB or 29 dB) and phase (0/180 degrees) setting, which makes it easier to fit into a larger system.
Each channel has balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs. A mini-jack trigger input and a trigger output allow remote switching and daisy chaining, so the unit can sit in a separate room. The chassis is 3U tall with integrated rack ears and adjustable, detachable rear mount ears. Feet are supplied for use outside a rack.
