The AVR-S970H is a 7.2-channel AV receiver with seven discrete power amplifiers, rated at 90 W per channel into 8 ohms (20 Hz–20 kHz, 0.08%, 2-channel drive). It can run a 7.2 layout or a 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos / DTS:X setup, and offers height virtualization for systems without overhead speakers. Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X upmixing are included for older content. Audyssey MultEQ handles room calibration with the supplied microphone, and a setup assistant guides first-time configuration.
Video handling covers six HDMI inputs and two outputs, with 8K/60Hz and 4K/120Hz support on three inputs and one output. HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG and Dynamic HDR pass through. Gaming features include VRR, QFT and ALLM, and eARC is supported on the main output.
Network features include Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, along with HEOS multi-room streaming, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and Roon Tested status. It plays high-resolution files up to 192 kHz/24-bit and DSD 2.8/5.6 MHz from USB or network sources. Two-zone, two-source operation is supported through assignable speaker terminals.
