The Aura MC is a dedicated moving coil phono stage in a redesigned custom case. It leaves out extra functions that would sit in the signal path, and it is adjustable for input load, capacitance and gain to suit typical low-output moving coil cartridges.
The first stage is a symmetrical, complementary class A design using paralleled ultra-low-noise FET transistors, so no bias current flows through the cartridge coil and no coupling components sit between cartridge and input. The second stage is a symmetrical class A differential amplifier that also serves as the active part of the RIAA equalisation. The third stage inverts the signal to provide a balanced output.
Power comes from a discrete tracking supply with a local supply and current generators for each stage, running at a voltage 60% higher than usual for added headroom. Polypropylene capacitors are used in the signal path, and gain, mute and mono switching use relays. The unit is designed and assembled in the UK and carries a lifetime limited warranty.
