The 2MR 78 is a mono cartridge built around the larger stylus profile that 78 rpm shellac records require. It carries a spherical diamond tip with a 65 µm radius on an aluminium cantilever, and is tuned for a tracking force of 1.6-2.0 g.
Its motor uses quad coils with split pole pins, and the output is strapped so both sets of pole pins deliver the same signal. This gives true mono reproduction through any stereo playback chain, without separate mono-specific equipment.
The housing is narrow and low in form factor, matching the requirements of turntables and tonearms such as Rega. It mounts with two screws on a half inch mount, with no modifications or spacers under the tonearm. A replacement stylus, the Stylus 2M 78, is available, and a user guide and dimensions chart can be downloaded.
