Middleton is a battery-powered Bluetooth speaker built around a quad-speaker layout: two 3" woofers, two 3/5" tweeters and two passive radiators in a sealed cabinet. Four Class D amplifiers drive the woofers and tweeters, and a processing mode called True Stereophonic spreads the sound in all directions. Dynamic Loudness adjusts the tonal balance as the volume changes.
The top panel has a multi-directional control knob for play/pause, track skipping, volume and power, a Bluetooth pairing button, a battery and volume indicator, and analogue bass and treble controls. The same sound adjustments can be made wirelessly in the Marshall Bluetooth app, which also receives over-the-air software updates. The speaker has no microphone, voice command or Wi-Fi.
It connects over Bluetooth 5.1 (about 10 m range) or through a 3.5 mm input. The built-in Li-ion battery gives 20+ hours of playback, charges fully in 4.5 hours over USB-C, and can also charge a phone as a power bank. The IP67 rating covers dust and 30 minutes in 1 m of water. A detachable carry strap is included.
